Haven’t heard about the Eagle Show?
Picture hundreds of Bald Eagles gathering in one area for just a couple of hours on certain days of the year. Narrow ocean channels funnel tide changes as high as 5 meters (16 feet). This push of such a large volume of water over just a few hours causes turbulent ocean rapids – some of the fastest moving ocean water on the planet! Small fish called Hake, get caught in the whirlpools and they float to the ocean’s surface unable to swim. The Eagles have figured out the schedule and they start arriving before it even starts. Perched in the trees patiently waiting, it suddenly happens! The currents pick up, the Hake float to the surface, and the Eagles take their turn fishing; we have witnessed many days where over 300 eagles are present with over 100 hunting at the same time. It’s also not uncommon to see them eat the fish mid-air; sometimes even upside down!

The Hake migration only happens for a few months each year and finding the right days where the tidal rapids are running fast. The feeding frenzy usually only lasts about 2 hours and we have picked dates where the water is running hard and the light is expected to be favourable.
